LISBON'S new cut 'Shark' is very much a track they needed to get out of their system. The Whitley Bay four-piece are back with this banging newbie that they've been playing live for quite some time and it's as explosive as they come. The foursome have left us longing for new material for a long time and 'Shark' delivers through and through. The track features hook-filled flashing pop guitar lines and debuts a heavier sound to the band's style. Previous releases such as 'Vice' has earned support from Radio 1's Annie Mac and the full throttle sound of 'Shark' is likely to pick up more support and love in their favour.
Frontman, Matthew Varty discussed the single saying, "'Shark' depicts the struggle young bands have nowadays to make a name for themselves in the music industry. The daily financial issues of being in an emerging band versus never wanting to give up on your dream, whilst at the same time avoiding the many 'sharks' that you cross paths with along the way.
"The song is a way of expressing our frustrations, whilst portraying a newfound darkness. We want to follow the percussive vibe from our previous singles but a lot of our new songs have a more raw live sound."
Guitarist, Joe Atkinson's calculated riffs and slick hooks come on strong, fast and clean. All of the elements are a little bit harder and sharper this time round but it's working for them and this is a track that proves to be a real triumph.
'Shark' is a concisely conceived parasitic ear worm that demands you press play again and again and based on the evidence, Lisbon's anthemic sound is one that that isn't about to slow down anytime soon. The North East quartet are rapidly blossoming in terms of popularity and will perform at Brighton's premier festival for new music - The Great Escape in May. The band are also set to tour the nation throughout May and June and it's a festival that will see them smash new venues (hopefully) near you.
